An iconic 1960’s Broadmeadows Town Hall has undergone a re-development, transforming its old building site with new facilities that enables community programs and services to run. In addition, the refurbishment also transforms its car park spaces into a separate open plan office that is functional and for job creation.
The new building mixes tradition and modern together. Sticking to its classic red brick appearance, the town hall boasts a separate glasshouse cube that screams modern architecture and building.
Vicbeam supplied timber curtain walls (TWC) fitted with GL18 Vic Ash Hardwood columns. The separate building features high glazed windows that stretches above three storeys. Inside, the hardwood columns look aesthetically pleasing as it frames the building dominated by double glazed windows allowing sunlight to shine through to an open plan office.
The use of timber curtain wall systems and glulam beams sets the modern standard for the building with its seamless finish and hidden connections. It complements the black frames seen in the town hall and contrasts magnificently over concrete texture. The project has been awarded the top honour in the 2020 Victorian Architecture Awards.
The inclusion of a modern office building was intended to increase job creation within the community. Refurbished and new, the Town hall will ensure a strong social and economic life for Broadmeadows and community.
