Tasbeam 15 H3
Treated to increase durability & extend the life
Tasbeam 15 H3 has been pre-treated ensuring full compliance with AS1604.5.2012 document, setting Australia and New Zealand standards of GLT (Glue laminated Timbers).
There are several factors involved in the life service of GLT products. This includes the natural durability of species and the degree of preservative treatment applied. The purpose of treatment is to increase durability and extend the life of GLT products by protecting them from rot, decay and insects. Thus, making GL15 Tasbeam H3 a reliable source of timber for pergolas, bolted trusses and structural beams.
H3 LOSP (Light Organic Solvent Preservative) is a hazard class 3 preservative treatment. Through correct H3 preservative treatment, timbers are made durable for assembling externally and internally above ground. Additionally, timbers are protected against insects, termites and moderate decay (Timber Preservers Association of Australia). Vicbeam’s GL15 Tasbeam H3 Hardwood are treated by Fishers, Timber Preservatives Pty Ltd and Outdoor Timber, Bayswater.
All timber is water treated inside a chamber, where there is a strong amount of vacuum pressure applied. Such pressure on the timber will allow chemicals to penetrate the cellular structure of the wood and deposit H3 treatment deep in the layers. Timbers are weighted before and after to monitor moisture levels.
The appearance of GL15 Tasbeam H3 Hardwood when applied with treatment becomes darker in colour, adding a richer depth than Vic Ash hardwood with no treatment. Vicbeam have provided GL15 Tasbeam H3 Hardwood for projects such as Ballantyne Street and the Brunswick Bowling Club Pergola where we see the darker tone is present.
For both projects, Vicbeam have provided expert advice for the handling GL15 Tasbeam H3 Hardwood. One in particular, is understanding the importance of end-capping timber beams to prevent potential damage to the end of the beams, which are exposed to different elements such as wetting and humidity. Such expert knowledge from Vicbeam and the use of H3 treatment have proven a successful outcome for both projects that are still structurally sound to this day.
*Please note that GL18 strength rating for Hardwood has been changed to GL15 in 2021/22. Vicbeam projects before 2021 are still related to GL18 strength rating.
