The Don Bosco Camp and Centre provides an ideal holiday campus for local communities, groups retreats, and school and music camps. Created by the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1945, this non-for-profit organisation aims to offer recreational, retreat and educational experiences for the poor and disadvantage young people.
A new re-development of its facilities in 2017 saw Vicbeam approached to manufacture GL18 Vic Ash H3 Hardwood Glulam to be fabricated, assembled and delivered to site. These new facilities will include a chapel, three multi-purpose halls, half court gym, reception building, additional toilets and showers, and a large open decking area. All are tailored for camping activities, social events and recreational use.
The project provides another wonderful use of GL18 Vic Ash H3 Hardwood. The re-development provides spacious areas with exposed GL18 Vic Ash H3 Hardwood Glulam, fabricated for portals and a spacious pergola setting. Additional H3 treatment gives a richer and darker timber appearance and most importantly, it will protect timber from insects and moderate decay. Vicbeam treated specified Glulam beams for this project.
Varied members of Glulam rafters and columns, four portals, three posts members and purlins were assembled on-site, creating a well-structured hall and pergola. All Glulam beams are connected with internal splice plates and M20 Bolts. Together, the connections provide a subtle industrial finish to a site dominated by timber texture and steel buildings.
