3 Schools – 57 Bolted Trusses
Vicbeam was pleased to take part in supplying glue laminated engineered feature trusses for Clyde Secondary College, Greenvale Secondary College, and Clyde Creek Primary School.
The glulam truss configuration went through several design changes which resulted in the truss featuring vertical posts with angled webs. The powder coated white steel plates were a first for Vicbeam and while we had our reservations early on, we believe the aesthetic works well with the surrounding décor.
Bolted trussed are unique in they offer a structural element that can also be decorative. As the images show the architect focused heavily on the interior with the aim of bathing the students in natural light.
From an engineering perspective, trusses are an efficient way to manage load as there are no internal shear and moment forces, and the forces are applied axially to each member. From all aspects exposed bolted trusses are an effective product for all environments.
