The Selandra Rise Community hub is an integrated multipurpose facility which aims to offer community interaction, activities, programs and services for its residents. A place where people can meet, participate and build community relationships in the suburb of Clyde North.
Vicbeam supplied GL10 White Cypress rafters and columns to this project funded by the City of Casey. Each timber member has been coated with layers of Cutek oil staining and counterbored for bolted connections with internal base plates. Once assembled, a total of nine GLT (Glue Laminated Timber) rafters and columns feature distinctively to the side entrance of the Community Hub.
All nine bolted beams are complimented with metal louvre panels above, which provides shade to an area destined to become an outdoor seating space. Installed near them are additional lights that hang down and provides warm lighting. Once turned on, the exposed timber texture standout from the shade during the evening.
Each of the external rafters extend into the building, where it reveals timber texture contrasting very well from the high ceiling. The overly spacious entrance and hallway allows the textures to be seen from different angles below. Additionally, the lengths of each rafter measures to the walls of the hallway, creating a narrow perspective leading into another spacious room.
Vicbeam are proud to be involved in this new centre, built for locals and the community. Selandra Community Hub’s Coordinator, Mandy Neave was impressed with the finishing results stating that the ’timber adds warmth to the spaces and would love to include more timber into the building’. The inclusion of timber in this community hub will help promote a welcoming atmosphere for all.
