An installation of Glulam column and rafter spanning 18.6 metres can be seen at the new Greenvale Woolworths development. Installed to feature on the façade, this impressive glulam portal was H3 treated and coated with a Sikkens five coat systems.
Made of GL13 Radiata Pine H3, each glulam member was prefabricated with drilled holes, slots and rebates ready for custom steel plates and delivered preassembled on-site for installation. Once assembled, the custom portal is distinctively recognisable with its timber texture and glossy coat. From far, it contrasts well from the other build materials such as steel and concrete and is installed as an aesthetic feature.
This long glulam beam is an impressive example of pushing the boundaries of glulam manufacturing in Australia and Vicbeam are proud to have achieve such accomplishments. Measuring at 18.6 metres, this single beam is the longest beam manufactured at Vicbeam to date.
