In the suburb of North Albury, NSW sits a newly renovated extension home that superbly combines timber and Exo Tech cladding materials together. Vicbeam supplied GL13 Radiata Pine H3 treated, prefabricated and coated to assemble eight exposed timber portals.
Its timber texture works well against the dominance of steel and concrete, providing a modern connection in-between the two materials. Connected to exposed timber columns located outside, each timber rafters follows the roof’s zigzag structure until it connects to hidden steel columns on the other side. Creating a portal structure that is eye-catching with its natural timber colour and unique structural shape.
Additionally, all timber members where finished with one layer of coating, making the timber texture standout against other materials like a decorative addition to the exterior. Bold details such as bolted black steel plates with subtle connection gaps in-between each member help add a bespoke finish to all exposed timber portals.
They continue inside where it contrasts from the white ceiling in a zigzag structure, diagonally following up and down and ending at the walls. A stunning timber addition that adds warmth to the interiors and compliments the black framed windows, allowing sunlight to shine through to the open space and onto the timber rafters.
Vicbeam prefabricated each timber member in-house before on-site delivery where connection details were precisely cut, and holes drilled with millimetre precision. The strong structural support and beautiful looking timbers is a testament to Vicbeam’s knowledge in timber engineering and fabrication. Owner and builder, Ian Hayne was happy with the overall build project. He mentions that the business has won over three additional projects since the completion of this extension home.
A superb project where steel, concrete and timber materials add a modern finish to an extension home filled with warm and homey interiors. A layer of coating has enhanced the natural timber texture externally, where we see timber texture wonderfully contrasting from the background whilst Inside; natural light brings warmth and cascades wonderfully onto high-quality timber finishes.
