Vicbeam supplied and fabricated GL10 White Cypress Gulam to feature in this residential home built on a massive block of land with breathtaking open views. Located at Mornington Peninsula, the Flinders home was shortlisted in vogues 38 most beautiful new houses built in Australia 2021.
This home engages with its surrounding environment well thanks to its landscape design and use of timber elements inside and outside. The finishes and textures of the hardwood ceiling provides demanding contrasts with the black ash cladded walls and natural concrete flooring. Outside, the use of glulam as a structural frame works well with the landscape and helps create a humble façade that merges with the environment.
Working closely with Bernie Everett, Vicbeam was tasked with preparing shop drawings for the roof and making the tricky slope, angle, and pitch of the roof work. This included custom steel brackets for exposed beams to connect with each other including the hidden glulam purlins. Once assembled, the glulam structure frames the exterior roof and provides cover to surrounding pathways.
A layer of Cutek coat provides a dark and rich appearance to the exposed glulam, which contrasts well from the dark grey cladding and bushy landscape. This is well aided with the installation of stainless-steel wires and overgrown greenery surrounding the home.
A distinctive residential, where the home layout, landscape design and exposed glulam combines well to form one of Australia’s most beautiful homes.
