Whittlesea Community Activity Centre
Bolted Trusses spanning 13 metres
Whittlesea Community Activity Centre is a modern facility incorporating a range of services for the local community.
Bowens North Melbourne on behalf of Contract Control approached Vicbeam to manufacture and fabricate 4 x GL18 Vic Ash Architectural Trusses spanning 13 meters long.
The Whittlesea Community Centre wanted to provide Whittlesea residents with a state-of-the art community hub, which would offer a host of additional facilities, meeting spaces and storage.
The new memorial hall caters for up to 200 people, and can be used for social & business functions. The large room can be partitioned into three separate areas, all with individual access.
This project required full technical drawings for timber, steel fixings and fabrication of the trusses. The trusses were assembled in house and then delivered to site ready to be installed.
Because glulam is made up of many laminates, you end up with a product which is stronger and straighter than solid timber, with strength and performance properties that are very reliable. Achieving a 13-meter bottom chord with solid timbers would prove difficult, however Glulam can be made up to 18 meters and even longer with splice connections. As per the engineers specifications, the top and bottom chords were manufactured to 150×85 and the webs of the truss 85×85.
Vicbeam can assist you with design, manufacture and assembly of engineered architectural bolted trusses for residential or commercial builds.
