A brand-new community health and fitness centre was built for all types of people and ages in the Mornington Peninsula Shire. The facility located in the suburb of Rosebud will promote health and fitness with accessibility to a multi-purpose fitness room, gymnasium, indoor swimming pools, and a health and wellness centre.
The project in collaboration with Belgravia Leisure, was designed by Peddle Thorp Architects and built by Buxton Construction. Vicbeam was approached to assemble sawtooth and warren trusses, along with several GL18 Vic Ash hardwood rafters for the multi-purpose room and gymnasium section.
The trusses were all made of LVL15 beams that were prefabricated and assembled in-house with exposed galvanised steel plates. Due to the custom sizing, each of the trusses had different plates that needed to be diligently assembled with M16 bolts and fixings.
The assembly of LVL15 beams also included the complexities of splice connections for the Warren trusses top and bottom chords. Two halves of the warren truss were assembled separately before connected to span 18 metres. A set of sawtooth trusses made of LVL15 were also provided.
Once assembled, the steel plates look captivating against the timber texture, dominating with its galvanised finish and giving the trusses an industrial warehouse theme that fits well to the gymnasium décor.
Another great project where LVL15 beams were used to make structural trusses with captivating steel connections.
