Toorak Gardens
Glulam extension to a Heritage Listed Home
Vicbeam was approached by Traegermunt to provide Blackbutt (Black18) GLT’s for an extension to a Heritage Listed Home in Toorak Garden, Adelaide.
A current trend in Australia is the belief that “The best heritage building is one that has a purpose.” With many heritage buildings in Australia being unoccupied, this project, once completed, will offer the residents an exceptional living experience.
Consulting with Traegermunt, Vicbeam supplied and fabricated GL18 Blackbutt Hardwood Glulam beams, coated, and installed as part of the interior structure of the building. Its long span allows timber texture to feature in almost all rooms, from the designated entrances through to surrounding living areas.
The raked ceilings, often referred to as cathedral or vaulted ceilings, are a sought-after design feature in contemporary homes. These ceilings slope upwards towards the roof’s peak, giving the room a sense of openness and space. They are an excellent way to add visual appeal and make a room feel larger and brighter.
Black18 showcases a light brown color with golden yellow hues and prominent gum veins. Its straight grain gives it an elegant look, while its durability is rated Class 1i, and it has a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) fire hazard rating of 29. This sustainable timber is available with PEFC certification, and our GLT’s feature Zero Formaldehyde emissions. Beams were coated with Osmo 420 Satin Clear.
Vicbeam was delighted to collaborate with all parties involved to bring this exciting GLT project to fruition.
