A pergola structure that draws subtle attention from the other side of the fence is assembled at the St Pauls Anglican Grammar School. Assembled on a lower ground, it features large GL18 Vic Ash Hardwood H3 columns and rafters that towers over you upon closer inspection.
The pergola provides shelter for an outdoor learning area and sand pit with long spans of clear acrylic materials individually installed on the top frame and contrasts magnificently from the timber texture. The ends of each acrylic have been custom cut to create a wavy pattern and assembled onto end-capped timber purlins. Together, they create a pergola that is unique with its cross-like frame connected with galvanised steel plates and bolts.
Vicbeam supplied all the GLT (Glue Laminated Timber) hand cut to size with numerous drilled holes. Additionally, the natural timber hardwood has been H3 treated and coated with one layer of Cutek Oil, making the pergola structure highly resistant and protected from decay and termites.
The successful completion of this project is a testament to Vicbeam’s full co-operation from start to finish with custom GLT pergolas. Vicbeam was in support of any changes required from drafting through to timber fabrication. This included the drawings of timber steel plates and on-site consultations with the supervisor.
GLT Pergolas are a generally in-demand project in the timber industry; and the custom structure has been extended towards newly built schools and parks. The St Pauls Anglican Grammar School marks Vicbeams’ first school project that only focuses on a custom GLT pergola.
