Slash Pine
GL17 Slash Pine Glulam
GL17 Slash Pine is a plantation softwood, only grown in Northern NSW and Queensland and is typically used in general construction, flooring and outdoor purposes.
The heartwood of Slash Pine is pale reddish brown, while the sapwood is pale yellow. The texture is relatively coarse and non-uniform, whilst the grain is straight, and knots are present in construction grade timber. There is a distinctive difference in colour between earlywood and latewood and the specie has a generally strong resinous odour.
Slash Pine has the strongest strength rating compared to other pine species, making it a versatile and practical timber with a life expectancy of less than 7 years above ground, outside. However, when treated with H3 LOSP (Light Organic Solvent Preservative), the timbers durability increases and can be applied for outdoor purposes such as decking, fascia, cladding and pergolas.
Vicbeam can manufacture Slash Pine to be used for rafters, columns, curves, roof beams and portal frames. The St Clare’s High School Taree is an excellent project where large GL17 Slash Pine H3 Glulam portal frames provide a stable support whilst showing timber texture magnificently. The timber is well suited for long spans with high load applications and where structural integrity is vital. It is easy to work the timber in relation to cutting, lifting, drilling and joining.
