Resistant, versatile, and strong
Blackbutt Hardwood is a quick growing plantation timber commonly available in New South Wales and southern Queensland. This dense hardwood is often used for building frameworks but can be used for a range of structural, exterior, and interior applications with glulam.
The timber characteristics usually contains an even texture and straight grain. Its heartwood ranges from golden yellow to pale brown, with some faint of pinkish colour. The sapwood is pale in appearance and is highly resistant to attack. When above ground, Blackbutt has a class 1 durability rating, that is projected to last 50 years.
When laminated or with a thickness greater than 18mm, Blackbutt provides good fire resistance with a BAL29 rating that is suitable for build projects in bushfire areas.
The species straight grain appearance makes it appealing for interior use commonly sought after for decking and flooring, but the specie is incredibly versatile. Additionally, Blackbutt can also be stained, painted, or polished to achieve the desired look.
